Exchange program for Journalists from Ukraine 2025
Disinformation Booster Academy
In 2025, Deutsche Gesellschaft e. V. and Common Sense Communications launched an international media project aimed at strengthening journalistic resilience and combating disinformation about Ukrainian refugees in Germany. The initiative focused on intersectional challenges faced by displaced persons, particularly women and children, and offers targeted support for journalists working under conditions of war and exile.
The project was grounded in the principles of Feminist Foreign Policy, placing the protection and empowerment of marginalized communities at its core. Ukrainian journalists were equipped with tools to identify and counter disinformation, especially manipulative narratives that portray refugees as a threat to host societies. These false claims distort public sentiment and undermine solidarity with Ukraine.
Over the course of several months, participating journalists took take part in:

Online trainings (July–September 2025) on investigative techniques, trauma-sensitive reporting, and media ethics,

A research trip to Berlin (November 2025), where they will engage with policymakers, diaspora representatives, NGOs, and experts in the field,

The development and publication (December 2025) of original journalistic pieces that critically examine how disinformation impacts Ukrainian refugees in Germany.
The program fostered cross-border cooperation between journalists in Ukraine and Germany, strengthened media literacy, and contributed to a more informed and inclusive public discourse.
