Exchange program for Journalists from Ukraine 2026
Disinformation Booster Academy
The second year in a row, Deutsche Gesellschaft e. V. and Common Sense Communications are launching an international media project aimed at strengthening journalistic resilience and combating disinformation in Ukrainian and German media. The initiative focuses on intersectional challenges faced by displaced persons, particularly women and children, and offers targeted support for journalists working under conditions of war and exile. The project places the protection and empowerment of marginalized communities at its core.
Ukrainian journalists and senior journalism students will be equipped with tools to identify and counter disinformation, especially manipulative narratives that portray refugees as a threat to host societies. These false claims distort public sentiment and go as far as undermining the value of diaspora perspectives and general solidarity with Ukraine.
Over the course of several months, participatnts will take part in:
-
Online trainings (June–August 2026) on investigative techniques, trauma-sensitive reporting, and media ethics (open for senior journalism students)
- Mentoring sessions (September-October 2026), between journalist and senior journalism students for knowledge exchange and networking
-
A research and networking trip to Berlin (16.-20. November 2026), where they will engage with policymakers, diaspora representatives, NGOs, and experts in the field
-
Finalization of publications (December 2026) of original journalistic pieces that critically examine how disinformation impacts Ukrainian refugees in Germany
The program fosters cross-border cooperation between journalists in Ukraine and Germany, strengthens media literacy, and contributes to a more informed and inclusive public discourse.
